This month meet Maru Trevizo, PHR, SHRM-CP. She is a long-time PIHRA member and volunteer leader. Currently, she is the Chair of the PIHRA Inland Valley chapter. Maru works for Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) as the Vice President of Human Resources. Let’s learn more about her.

How long have you been a PIHRA member?

I’m thinking approximately 10 years or more.

Why did you decide to enter the HR profession?

I thought it would be great to be in a position where I can help people, coach, and develop them as well as influence the business.

What has been the greatest challenge in your career so far?

I worked at a company that eventually had to close multiple facilities, layoffs are not fun at all.

What has been your greatest HR related accomplishment?

I’ve been in positions where I had the ability to influence the business and shape the organization to provide a great work environment, develop and retain talent.

What are your long-term career goals?

I would love to have the time to get and MBA in organizational development and leadership.

What has the PIHRA membership meant to you both personally and professionally?

Being part of PIHRA has a made a huge, difference in my professional career. I was able to find mentors that helped me throughout my career, I was able to keep up to date with new laws and best practices with the CA HR conference and the legal updates. I found great friendships and amazing colleagues to learn from.
