"Let's (Not) Talk About Sex" - A Primer for LGBTQIA Understanding

As an HR professional in California, you are expected to understand a variety of laws, norms and behaviors with regard to the LGBTQIA community. Your company may have its own set of policies on top of those. If you are not a part of the community, you may be curious how to be empathetic, sensitive and supportive, while still adhering to the law and recent EEOC rulings. And, if this is the first time you are seeing a few extra letters on that acronym, this may be the course for you. We also welcome members of the LGBTQIA community to lend their voices to this very important session for HR Professionals.

  1. LGBTQIA covers a diverse spectrum of individuals. How do we address members of the community both in name and in terms of needs?
  2. How do we identify and address issues of micro-aggression?
  3. How do some of the state/federal laws and EEOC rulings impact our business?
  4. Being sensitive to Transgender staff seems to come up quite a bit more these days. We will have an open discussion.
  5. What resources are out there for me to find best practices?
  6. The importance of training all staff and especially supervisors about these issues.
