Workplace Investigations in the #MeToo Era
presented by Daphne Pierre Bishop

The aftershocks of the #MeToo and other social media-driven movements shook workplaces throughout California. From January through March 2018, the Department of Fair Employment & Housing received 939 complaints of sexual harassment, which is more complaints than were received in all of 2017. That trend is likely to continue into the foreseeable future. While it is impossible to completely prevent harassment and other forms of discrimination, ensuring your human resources department has the proper resources to effectively respond to employee complaints will minimize the potential risks, decrease exposure, and foster a safe and comfortable work environment for all employees.

This presentation will offer human resources professionals guidance on how to properly respond to employee complaints of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.

Attendees will learn:

  • Components of an effective anti-harassment program
  • Steps to take to conduct an investigation, including deciding when to retain an outside investigator
  • How to handle potential due process issues, he said/she said situations and credibility issues
  • This will be an engaging and interactive presentation!
