You’re invited to attend PIHRA #RealHR-La Jolla, a high energy social combined with a learner centric panel. 

PIHRA has assembled a fabulous panel to explore and discuss the multifaceted impact that the growth of the cannabis industry has and may continue to have on human resources and the workplace. Our panelist will share their perspectives which range from working in the cannabis industry to working in a highly regulated industry such as manufacturing and government. We want to hear about your thoughts and experiences too. Please bring your curiosity and experiences to participate in this conversation.

Speakers

  Moderator - Ryan Nell, Esq., Shareholder, Pettit Kohn Ingrassia Lutz & Dolin PC
Ryan H. Nell is an employment attorney representing California employers statewide in both counseling and comprehensive litigation. With the ever-changing landscape of California and federal employment law, Ryan assists clients in staying ahead of the curve in an effort to avoid legal trouble before it arises. He has extensive experience representing clients in harassment, retaliation, and discrimination matters, as well as large-scale wage and hour lawsuits. Ryan speaks regularly on a wide range of topics aimed at assisting California employers avoid legal trouble before it arises. Recently, he was awarded the San Diego Super Lawyers Rising Star. Ryan graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law.
  Panelist - Christian Lusby, Head of People & Culture at Cannalysis
Christian Lusby has over 11 years of experience in Human Resources working mostly in the action sports apparel industry for companies such as Quiksilver, Fox and Volcom. Currently, he is the Head of People & Culture at Cannalysis, the leading cannabis testing facility in California. At Cannalysis, he is focused on recruiting and retaining top talent from outside of the industry to help take the organization and the cannabis industry to the next level of organizational effectiveness. Christian is a graduate of San Diego State University.
  Panelist - Rakesha Thomas, MPA, Director of Human Resources and Risk Management, City of Fontana
Rakesha L. Thomas has over 20 years of progressively responsible experience with various disciplines of Human Resources to include: Employment, Recruitment and Retention, Employee and Labor Relations, Human Resources Information Systems, Benefits, Training, Classification and Compensation, and Risk Management specifically within the public sector.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Human Resources Management.  

Rakesha has worked for large agencies such as the California State University system, a special district in Los Angeles County and currently works for a City municipality.  In her role as the Director of Human Resources and Risk Management she is held to a higher standard and expectations with maintaining a zero-tolerance environment, a drug-free workplace. Her oversight includes Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Random Drug Testing and Pre-Employment Drug Screening.  
  Panelist - Dallin Young, Executive Director/Association of Cannabis Professionals
Originally from Sacramento, Dallin Young moved to San Diego to attend San Diego State University where he graduated magna cum laude. He began his career in politics as a consultant during the 2012 election cycle and has worked on over 30 campaigns throughout the state including some of the largest, most expensive, and closely watched races in San Diego County. In 2015, he became the Executive Director of the Association of Cannabis Professionals helping to organize events and outreach including the 2015 San Diego Cannabis Cup, the first of its kind in San Diego. He was a part of Measures U and V which were passed in 2016 and established regulations for the cannabis industry in the cities of La Mesa and Lemon Grove. He is a registered lobbyist for the cannabis industry in the City of San Diego. In addition to working in both politics and the cannabis industry, he is a passionate advocate in the disability community as well as a 5-year high school wrestling coach.

Cancellation Policy

There will be a 50% administration fee for any cancellation. If you need to cancel, we must receive it in writing (email or fax) 2 business days prior to an event during normal business hours. Refunds will not be given to no-shows. Credits will not be issued for use towards future PIHRA events.
