Richard Simmons is one of the best known and highly-regarded employment lawyers in California. He is the only management attorney to produce a victory for California employers before the Supreme Court in all of 2018 and is the author of the leading books in the field.
In this session, Mr. Simmons will review the hottest and most important topics in the Wage and Hour area, including new court decisions on travel time, meal and rest periods, reporting time pay, exemptions and the proposed minimum salary hikes under federal law. As the most active area in all of employment law, literally dozens of new wage-hour cases and important legislative changes have reshaped and increased the responsibilities for which all employers and HR professional will be accountable.

Richard J. Simmons is a partner in the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Sheppard Mullin. He represents employers in various employment law matters involving litigation throughout the country and general advice regarding state and federal wage and hour laws, employment discrimination, wrongful discharge, employee discipline and termination, employee benefits, affirmative action, union representation proceedings, and contract arbitrations. Mr. Simmons has authored several books on Wage and Hour Manual for California Employers -22nd Edition 2019; Book of Human Resources Forms; and Sexual Harassment Training and Prevention Manual – 16th Edition January 2018.
Mr. Simmons has been a lecturer at graduate labor law courses presented at the University of California at Los Angeles and at the University of Southern California, and has appeared as an authority on labor law and employee benefit issues on the CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News.
Mr. Simmons received his J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and his B.A. from the University of Massachusetts summa cum laude.
