Becoming Someone Others Want to Follow

Most leadership thought and research focuses on leadership behaviors, what leaders need to do to be eﬀective. But eﬀective leadership is more than just doing the right thing, it is being the right thing, someone that others want to follow.
In this session, Ryan will help participants enhance their leadership and capabilities to positively inﬂuence and direct those they lead and work with to greater goal achievement. To do so, Ryan will engage participants in a deep level of introspection by:
- awakening them to their mindsets, and
- empowering them to harness their mindsets to become a truly eﬀective leader, someone others want to follow.
Not only with this session be personally applicable, but it will provide participants with a cutting-edge leadership framework to help develop leadership within their organizations.
- Understanding what sets apart inﬂuential dysfunctional leader from inﬂuential effective leaders
- Understanding the fundamental role mindsets play in leadership eﬀectiveness Identification of the four mindsets necessary for eﬀective leadership and becoming someone others want to follow
- Identification of personal mindsets through a personal mindset assessment Recommendations for how to improve their own mindsets, and how to improve the mindsets and overall leadership eﬀectiveness within one's organization

Ryan Gottfredson, Ph.D. is a cutting-edge leadership consultant, trainer, coach, and researcher. He helps improve organizations by improving the success of their leaders’ and managers’ lives, work, and leadership. Ryan is currently a leadership and management professor at the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics at California State University-Fullerton (CSUF). He holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Human Resources from Indiana University, and a B.A. from Brigham Young University. He is also a former Gallup, Inc., consultant where he helped dozens of organizations improve the engagement of their employees. As a respected authority and researcher on topics related to leadership, management, and organizational behavior, Ryan has published over 15 articles across a variety of journals including: Journal of Management, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Business Horizons, Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, and Journal of Leadership Studies. His research has been cited over 1,350 times since 2013.
