PIHRA Inland Valley
Employee or Independent Contractor?
The Stakes are Higher Now
presented by James J. McDonald, Jr.
The California Supreme Court’s Dynamex re-shaped the landscape of California law regarding proper classification of independent contractors. This presentation will explain the new “ABC” test announced by the court to determine whether contractors are properly classified. The program will also highlight the exposure that can result from improperly classifying employees as contractors, including wage and hour liability, unemployment and withholding tax audits, and civil penalties.
Key takeaways from this presentation will be:
- Learn how to apply the new Dynamex test for independent contractor status.
- Identify types of liability that may result from having misclassified contractors.
- Learn about alternatives to using misclassified contractors.
PIHRA Inland Valley has teamed up with The Marine Corp for the Toys for Tots Drive. If you would like to donate, please bring a new, unwrapped toy or toys to the meeting. There will be a table for all the donated toys that are collected that day.
About Toys for Tots:
The Marine Toys for Tots program collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November, and December. The program then distributes them to less fortunate children as Christmas gifts each year. These toys make a tremendous difference in the lives of the children and families that receive them gratefully. The toys distributed are not only viewed as a simple gift, but also brings joy, happiness, and hope to the children in need. Hope is the key, and hope is what the Marine Corps Reserve is able to give through the Toys for Tots program. A message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
