Hot Topics Under FEHA, ADA and CFRA/FMLA


This interactive program will provide an update for California employers on their leave of absence obligations, including pregnancy and disability leaves under California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act, California’s Pregnancy Disability Leave, the Family Medical Leave Act and more.

Learning objectives:

  1. Understand recent developments under federal and state leave laws.
  2. Recognize potential pitfalls that could be created by the intersection of Workers compensation, CFRA/FMLA, PDL and FEHA/ADA
  3. Know how to respond to factual scenarios presented by employee leave of absence requests.

Tamara I. Devitt, Partner, Haynes and Boone, LLP

Tamara Devitt is experienced in counseling and representing employers in all aspects of labor and employment law. She regularly defends employers against claims of discrimination, unlawful harassment, wrongful termination, unfair business practices and wage and hour claims, including class actions and complex litigation.

She advocates for employers in all aspects of employment litigation, including jury and bench trials, arbitration and pre-litigation negotiations, and in administrative tribunals, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, Department of Labor and California Labor Commissioner.

Tamara also advises and counsels employers on compliance, including hiring, discipline and termination practices, wage and hour issues, misconduct investigations (i.e., harassment, workplace violence, embezzlement), leaves of absence, reasonable accommodation of employees with disabilities, policies and procedures and employment agreements.

She regularly conducts management training and lectures on labor and employment issues.



This program has been approved for 1.5 Professional Development Credits (PDCs), towards SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP, through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Cancellation Policy

There will be a 50% administration fee for any cancellations. If you need to cancel, we must receive it in writing (email or fax) 2 business days prior to the event during normal business hours. Refunds will not be given to no-shows. Credits will not be issued for use towards future PIHRA events.
