California Discrimination Law Update

Since January, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing has issued three important new employer Regulations on the following subjects: (i) when and how and employer may use criminal history information when evaluating job applicants and employees; (ii) transgender employee rights in the workplace; and (iii) workplace harassment prevention obligations. Our speakers Richard S. Rosenberg and Janet S. Soultanian are seasoned practitioners with over 50 years of combined experience advising California employers on their rights and responsibilities under state and federal job discrimination laws. They will walk you through what you need to know to comply with these important changes to the law.

Among the topics to be covered:

  • The criminal history information that an employer may (and may not) consider when interviewing job applicants
  • The steps employers must take before denying employment based upon criminal history
  • Employer rights and responsibilities when collecting gender information
  • Transgender employee rights: facility usage; dress code and appearance issues; and being addressed by a preferred name and gender pronoun at work
  • The steps employers are expected to take to prevent workplace harassment claims from ever occurring.
