All certifications are valid for three years. Recertification is required every three years through demonstrated professional development (preferred method) or retaking the exam.
3-year recertification period.
The recertification period begins the date that a candidate takes and passes the exam.
The recertification period ends on the last day of a credential holder’s birth month, at least 3 years from the date the candidate becomes certified.
During the first recertification period, some credential holders may have a slightly longer period.

Qualifying Recertification Activities
All activities must be related to human resource topic areas or related competencies consistent with the areas outlined in the Body of Competency and Knowledge (BoCK).
PIHRA offers more than 200 opportunities each year to obtain recertification credits. Most popular are the California HR Conference, Legal Update, monthly webinars, and monthly meetings in a community near you.
