HR from the Outside In:
Six Competencies for the Future of
Human Resources, by Dave Ulrich
featuring guest speaker
Tiffany Stith, President and Chief Operating Officer
for Lawry’s Restaurants
Dave Ulrich is one of the countries cutting edge HR experts who shaped SHRM’s Competency model. Now he has written HR from the Outside In to help HR professionals understand what competencies they will need to succeed in today’s top corporation and the HR departments of the future.
So, what are competencies? Management wants competent employees to not only run efficient and effective corporations, but to add value and help mold their corporate social contribution to the community. HR professionals are writing job descriptions, inclusive of job competencies for most job families. Associations are defining competencies in their fields and adding competency tests to their certification process. SHRM identifies their HR Competency Model as what it means to be a successful HR professional—across the performance continuum, around the globe, from early to executive career levels. Further, SHRM has built their HR Learning System on their competencies model. HR professionals are seeking SHRM certification in these competencies.
Tiffany Stith’s promotion from Lawry’s Restaurants Inc.’s, vice president of human resources to president and chief operating officer, is not only is a major milestone for the 87-year-old family owned company, but for HR professionals. It is a major milestone for an HR professional to be promoted to a national corporate CEO role. We are honored to have her as our featured speaker to discuss HR From the Outside In by Dave Ulrich with us.
As we will explore HR from the Outside In, we will see why the competencies of yesterday will not carry HR professionals into the leadership roles of the future. Like all good PIHRA members, Tiffany never stops learning. Tiffany is an innovator whose creativity balances tradition with progressive and innovative ideas. Tiffany’s considerable skill set embody the competencies that Ulrich maintains we will all need to succeed in today’s top corporate environment but in the HR departments of the future.
