The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Hire the Former, Not the Latter!

Smart Recruiting is not only important for the obvious reason of wanting to attract the best-qualified employees. In today’s complex legal climate, employers can be found liable for negligent hiring if they fail to show appropriate due diligence in the hiring process which results in unreasonable harm to others - not to mention the incredible internal costs and potential liability for having to terminate a poor hire.

Most managers feel that they know how to recruit and hire, but when surveyed, many skip important steps that compromise the process. Come join us for this interactive session to revisit the necessary elements in a smart recruiting process. We'll discuss how work style and personality assessments can be an incredible tool in making the right hiring decisions. We'll even review some sample assessment reports together and decide if our recommendation is to hire or not! Plus, we'll have a chance to review steps you can take up-front at the time of hiring that will make a termination easier if it becomes necessary later.

Learning Objectives:

  • Smart-Recruiting in 10 Steps
  • Are job descriptions really needed?
  • Are background checks and reference checks really that important?
  • Why use work style assessments?
  • A brief review of some sample assessments and how to use them?
  • What documentation is essential at the time of hire?
  • A review of the concept of negligent hiring and how to avoid that liability.

Lauraine Bifulco, VantaggioHR

Two themes are woven throughout Lauraine Bifulco's diverse career: a
passion for a job well done and a zest for continual learning and
improvement. Lauraine infuses Vantaggio HR with these qualities every
day. When she founded the firm in 1994, Lauraine combined her rare talent in understanding what a client needs and her gift of business foresight to create a company that can service the HR and management consulting needs of small and large companies equally well. Today Vantaggio serves clients across the country from their offices in California, Hawaii, and New York. Lauraine is a member and frequent lecturer for Professionals in Human Resources Association (PIHRA), Society for Human Resources (SHRM) and sits on the board of directors for several business organizations and private firms. She is also a founding member of one of the Orange County chapters of WPO (Women Presidents' Organization). Recently, Lauraine was featured in OC Metro's "Top 20 Women to Watch" edition. Lauraine received a bachelor's degree from Wellesley College and conducted graduate level studies in linguistics at the Sorbonne in Paris. She resides in San Juan Capistrano, where she balances the rigorous demands of growing Vantaggio HR with the art of managing a successful marriage and raising two children.
