Thinking about becoming certified?
There are a number of advantages to obtaining your PHR, SPHR and
California certification. In addition to being a public recognition of
professional achievement, certification shows mastery of our field and a
commitment to staying informed of new developments. HR professionals
must know how to deal effectively with all aspects of the field,
including strategic planning, international business issues,
compensation and benefits, HR development, employee rights, and emerging
HR issues. Certification affirms your ability to understand our
profession on a broader scale.
Time to Recertify?
To retain the PHR, SPHR or California designations, the HR
Certification Institute requires all certificants to recertify every
three years either by accumulating 60 educational hours through
continuing education, instruction, on-the-job experience, research and
publishing, leadership activities, or membership in a national or
international professional organization such as the Society for Human
Resource Management (SHRM), or by retaking the examination
(“recertification by examination”). For more information about how to
recertify by retaking the exam, please refer to the most recent version
of the GPHR or PHR and SPHR Certification Handbook. The cost to
recertify by documenting 60 credit hours of continuing education is $10.
Prep Courses
The SHRM Learning System Certification Preparation Courses presents
an in-depth review of the students’ professional knowledge and skills
and broadens his/her perspective and understanding of the field. The
twelve week program consists of six instructional modules encompassing
key areas in HR Management as outlined by SHRM. Students review test
taking tips and take weekly timed examinations.
