Breakfast Meeting - Doing the Dance: Going Beyond Statutory Leave

About our Program:

Employees are provided employment protection in case of stress leave, pregnancy leave or myriad other injuries, illnesses or disabilities under the Family and Medical Leave Act/California Family Rights Act, Fair Employment and Housing Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and under Workers Compensation. The issue is how can employers make sure their employees get the provisions they need, while protecting the company against general disability and retaliation claims? This presentation will address how companies can protect themselves while still being in compliance with the law.

About our Speaker:

James (Jim) Q. McDermott is an AV-rated attorney whose practice is primarily devoted to civil litigation with an emphasis on employment and business disputes at Ferguson Case Orr Paterson. Jim received his law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1997. Jim has served as lead trial counsel in jury and bench trials. He also has extensive experience with the American Arbitration Association involving employment and commercial arbitrations. Although Jim enjoys trial and litigation work, he strives to maximize his client’s return by providing candid pre-litigation advice regarding employee retention and termination as well as general business and intellectual property issues.
